11 O‘ahu Eateries Will Have Special Natto Dishes This Weekend

The Natto Day Dinner is sold out, but nat-to worry: You can still score original natto creations this Saturday and Sunday.

The small but ardent subset of foodies who love natto got a boost these last few years, as did many eateries, when we switched our annual Natto Day celebration from a sit-down dinner to a multi-restaurant takeout event. This year, Greg Sekiya of the Hawai‘i natto lovers Facebook group and I had the same idea: Since the July 10 Natto Day Dinner at Kaimukī Shokudo sold out in hours, why not see if other restaurants want to offer natto dishes as well?

That’s how we get to spread the love to 11 restaurants and food businesses this weekend. From spicy natto mixed noodles to natto gumbo to a smoked takuan natto topping, all-new creations will tempt natto gourmands all over the city. Other restaurants are using the occasion to celebrate dishes already on their menus—all three locations of ‘Ahi & Vegetable are knocking $5 off the price of the spicy ‘ahi natto bowl, and Fujiyama Texas is discounting its natto-topped tofu cutlet by $1 this weekend.

Find all the details for your upcoming weekend of natto bliss below.
