Waialae on the Rise

It's hard to think of a Honolulu street that mixes old and new quite as well as Waialae Avenue.  In a way, its 2.5-mile stretch makes up one of the city's last, best walking neighborhoods, packed with restaurants, shops and small businesses that manage to be both quirky and essential.  Many, such as W&M Burgers and Young Scales, are decades-old institutions, but the street is also being invigorated by exciting young upstarts, from a hip design studio to a new bridal shop.
