A bustling Kaimuki staple for the past 13 years, Coffee Talk is to many the heart of the neighborhood, a friendly place to convene over a cup of joe and in-house baked goods like apple-cinnamon muffins and bundt cake. Owner Liz Schwartz says her clientele ranges from “young to old, neighborhood people, business people, college students and people just passing through who like coffee.” Coffee Talk hosts a wide range of community events, from bingo tournaments to punk shows, but, with the high ceilings, secluded nooks and free Wi-Fi, it’s a place where you can spend hours just relaxing.

My friend and I used to come here often after work and on weekends, just to hang. We talked about moving off the island and making names for ourselves as writers. What we hadn't realized until it was too late and we did make it off the island... was how much we missed just hanging out feeling like losers but losers in paradise--with great coffee.
