‘Ono on rice, ‘ono as a snack, ‘ono anytime just because. O‘ahu is lucky to have a number of roast meat specialists and restaurants laying claim to the best Chinese-style roast duck on the island. For 35 years, Nam Fong was up there with them. Now that it’s closed, it’s time to reassess the roast duck scene.

So who makes the best roast duck on O‘ahu? Crispy skin, succulent meat, perfectly balanced savory-sweet glaze? Which one is consistently good and worth driving for? Is it the hidden spot in a Chinatown food court? The newer player in Kāhala? The longtime institution in ‘Aiea? Or someplace else?

You have until 11:59 p.m. HST this Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, to cast your vote or write in your favorite in the poll below. Then stay tuned—we’ll compile the results and report back next week with Your Top 5 roast duck spots.
