Just in time for Labor Day, and for all your grilling days beyond (because every day is a grilling day in Hawai‘i), Fresh Box, Hawai‘i’s first meal-kit service, recently debuted the Butcher Box, packed with all-local steaks and hamburgers and locally made sausages. To assemble the same collection of meats, you’d have to make multiple stops across the island for Makaweli Ranch’s rib-eye, strip steaks and filet mignon; Kunoa Cattle Co.’s hamburger patties; and Butcher & Bird’s sausages. Now, you can get it all delivered to your door.

And a local tomahawk steak? I couldn’t even find one until now: the Beast Box upgrade includes a Makaweli 24-ounce rib-eye with a Flintstone-sized bone attached. I’d save that one for date night (woo me not with frou-frou food but with giant, fire-kissed steaks and a bottle of red wine) and cook up the sausages and hamburgers for a party. The fennel-studded and juicy sausages won over a crowd when I grilled them, and the hamburger tastes of the clean and concentrated beefiness that only comes from grass-fed cattle—I fought the dog to lick the plate of its meat juices. A Beast Box has a way of turning us savage.

Will Chen, who was Beachhouse at the Moana’s chef de cuisine before he started Fresh Box, says he’s been wanting to do a grill box for a while now, “something that was easy but also in line with highlighting foods grown in Hawai‘i.” The Butcher Box can be a splurge item—a just-add-grill party in a box (it even comes with a bottle of spice blend) to feed 6 to 8 people (there’s more than seven pounds of meat in each). Or it’s something to stock your freezer with for a fast weeknight dinner. And of course, you don’t need a grill, just a hot pan.

Butcher Box $129 (includes two 12-ounce rib-eye steaks, two 8-ounce strip steaks, two 6-ounce petite filet steaks, four 8-ounce burger patties, four 8-ounce sausages), Beast Box $174 (the Butcher Box plus a 24-ounce tomahawk steak). Meat is delivered frozen in an insulated box, $18 delivery fee. hifreshbox.com/butcherbox
