The Dances of Love Festival Hawaii 2014 was founded on the belief that dance is a powerful means of building community, self-awareness, connection to others, and feeling profoundly alive in our bodies. Throughout this festival, distinguished instructors will be leading a variety of fun and engaging workshops featuring “the dances of love.” Tango and salsa workshops will be offered, in addition to belly dancing, SUP yoga, Gyrotonics, Afro-Latin contemporary, yoga for dancers, ecstatic dance and hula.

Born in England and bred in New Orleans, Jon Cleary is a multi-talented pianist with a knack for composing infectious grooves. Legendary punk rock band Channel 3 is coming to Hawaii for the first time. HIFF will conclude with the world premiere of the Hawaii-produced, “Visions in the Dark: The Life of Pinky Thompson,” directed by Ty Sanga. Thompson fought hard against the stigma of an inferior native Hawaiian, championing a health care system, creating invaluable educational programs and strengthening the pride of native Hawaiians. His legacy lives on through his work as a social worker and community leader, including leadership posts at Kamehameha Schools and the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
