Pupusas, Arepas, Ceviches and Lots of Tacos Coming to Sunday’s Cinco de Mayo Festival
The second annual celebration of Hawai‘i’s Latino community showcases all kinds of food, music and more at Ka Makana Ali‘i.
You knew May would be busy, right? Close on the heels of Saturday’s Filipino Fiesta is Sunday’s Cinco de Mayo Festival at Ka Makana Ali‘i—and organizers say the second annual showcase of Latino food and culture promises to be bigger, with more food and activities. Admission to the family-friendly event is free.
So there’ll be plenty of tacos, all kinds. But not just birria, nachos and quesadillas. Reflecting the island’s diverse Latin food scene, you’ll also find ceviches from Sonora and Peru, Salvadoran/Honduran pupusas, arepas and empanadas from Venezuela, and Peruvian salchipapas and lomo saltado. Plus Native American fry bread, vegan and gluten-free baked goods, Southern soul food and lots and lots of agua fresca. Find the complete menus below.
Since life is about more than food (what?!), also at the Cinco de Mayo Festival, you’ll find live music, a low-rider car show, craft vendors, a keiki zone (inflatables, games, face painting and even more tacos), a VIP area (private seating, drinks, snacks and other perks; buy tickets here), 21+ bars by Taqueria El Ranchero and Sinaloa Village by Sinaloa Tortillas.
Here are Sunday’s details, plus all the food below.
