Yippee for Jollibee
Jollibee is the Philippines’ top fast-food chain, so it was no surprise that it finally opened here in Waipahu. If you haven’t traveled to Asia or even heard of Jollibee, I would basically describe what they serve as American food with a Filipino twist (when you scroll through the photos below, you’ll know why).
Being Filipino, I was uber excited that the fast-food chain had finally come to Hawaii. There was a long line that wrapped around the building during Tuesday’s grand opening. I waited about 20 minutes outside of the restaurant and another 15 minutes to place my order. When I sat down and took the first bite of my spaghetti with chicken, the food brought me back to my childhood visits to the Philippines.
Currently Jollibee is only serving lunch and dinner. Next month, the restaurant should be in full swing with breakfast items. To add to the restaurant’s dessert menu, Filipino bakeshop Red Ribbon will also start selling Filipino desserts.
