Townies, Now is the Perfect Time to Try Kapolei’s Mad Bene

(Sponsored) With an in-town pickup location for its fresh pasta kits on Mondays and Fridays, you can now try the Leeward Side’s hottest new eatery without the 40-minute drive.

Whenever I tell people I’m a townie, I always say it with a little embarrassment because I fit the stereotype all too well. Living my entire life with everything 20 minutes away has spoiled me to the point where driving beyond Kalihi sounds like a road trip. (“Pearl City? I’ll pack some snacks.”)

So when Mad Bene opened late last year in Kapolei, a slew of rave reviews following closely behind it, I put it on my list of places to try but never expected I actually would. Kapolei might as well have been a time zone away for this spoiled townie.

Little did I know, the opportunity came much, much sooner than I thought. A few weeks ago, I was gifted one of Mad Bene’s pasta kits, and, let me tell you, I was impressed. The directions: easy. The pasta: fresh. The sauce: killer. Once the water reached a boil, it took no more than 10 minutes to get that pasta plated. The only bummer is that now I absolutely will have to make the drive to Kapolei and try Mad Bene in person—after the shelter-in-place order, of course.

Mad Bene offers fresh pizza kits as well, which sounds like a fun idea for a date or family dinner night. Both the pasta and pizza kits can be ordered online or by phone. Pickup is at Café Duck Butt (901 Kawaihao St.) every Monday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. You’ll need to place your order by 11 a.m. on the day you plan to pick up your pasta. The restaurant is also doing takeout service (with more and made-to-order options) daily from noon to 8 p.m. with curbside pickup.
