This Year Marks New Beginnings for MW Restaurant
(Sponsored) Michelle Karr-Ueoka and Wade Ueoka prepare to reopen their restaurant in February 2021 across from the Blaisdell Center.
Now through January 2021, use your First Hawaiian Bank Mastercard at any 2020 Hale ‘Aina Gold-winning restaurants and you’ll receive double points on your purchase.
New year, new beginnings. That especially goes for husband-wife power duo (and the Hale ‘Aina Awards 2020 Restaurateurs of the Year) Wade Ueoka and Michelle Karr-Ueoka, owners/chefs of the popular MW Restaurant, which temporarily closed its location near Ala Moana Center on New Year’s Eve to prep for an exciting new spot (joined by grab-and-go sister restaurant Artizen) at Velocity Honolulu, slated to open in February 2021.
MW Restaurant has always felt like that one cool friend who gets along with everyone. It’s sophisticated, but familiar; elevated, but not pretentious. Its dishes have the foundation of local flavor—beef stew, steamed fish, Korean fried chicken—but made gourmet with culinary skill and creative mind. Dessert is always a revelation, as expected of Michelle Karr-Ueoka, who leads dessert at MW and, in 2013, was a James Beard Foundation Award nominee for Outstanding Pastry Chef (the same year MW Restaurant was also nominated for Best New Restaurant, by the way).

Along with a new location, the restaurant is also taking this time to update its menu with a few tweaks. Don’t worry, dishes (including the fan-favorite mochi-crusted fish) will remain mostly the same—just small changes to ingredients to keep flavors fresh.
