This Outdoor Burger and Beer Garden Is All the Best Summer Things

I’m not sure who decided that grilling was a summer thing, but let me tell you: I’m into it, as long as I don’t need to stand by that open flame. Closed since March, Merriman’s Honolulu in Ward Village is easing into reopening its restaurant, starting from the outside. Its outdoor lānai has been reimagined as a burger and beer garden, which, starting this Friday, July 17, will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week (it’s open today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in case you don’t have lunch plans). What does that mean? Perfect-for-summer gourmet grilled burgers and sausages—think Kobe beef hot dogs, Beyond vegan brats and house-ground patties with caramelized onions—minus the prep and grilling.

Since barbecue and beer go hand in hand, Merriman’s will also have some libations available to order. Enjoy ice-cold brews from Waikīkī Brewing Co., hard ciders from Paradise Cider, wines by the glass, cocktails and nonalcoholic cane sugar sodas with your fresh-grilled barbecue, along with sides including Caesar salad, elote (Mexican street corn, which is every bit as good as it sounds), fresh local fruit and house-made chips.

Things to keep in mind: Merriman’s isn’t currently taking reservations, so guests are taken as walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis; parties are limited to groups of six or fewer; social distancing is required (of course).
