This Kāhala Beachside Restaurant Just Revamped Its Menu Offerings

While the Kāhala Hotel & Resort holds the same opulent reputation as the neighborhood it lives in, not all of its restaurants are about five-course tasting menus and evening wear. Tucked under the main level and facing the ocean is Plumeria Beach House, the resort’s casual open-air eatery that echoes the indoor/outdoor ambience of an Island home.

The multiple Hale ‘Aina Award-winner reopened two weeks ago on July 8, but there’s more for diners to look forward to besides ocean views and the legendary setting of the Kāhala. Chef Jonathan Mizukami, who joined the resort as executive chef at the start of 2020, has added some new to Plumeria Beach House’s offerings with brand-new, curated lunch, dinner and to-go menus. Chef Mizukami oversees the culinary direction of the Kāhala’s catering and dining operations, and though he may be a newbie on the team, don’t be fooled: He has two decades of experience under his belt working at nationally and internationally renowned restaurants, including the three-Michelin-starred El Bulli in Spain, Per Se in New York City, The Fat Duck in England and Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry, where he spent a decade as sous chef.

Plumeria Beach House is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for to-go orders (call (808) 739-8989 to place your takeout order). Reservations can be made through OpenTable or by calling (808) 739-8760.
