Located on the docks of Koko Marina Center, tucked away from Kalaniana‘ole Highway, Kona Brewing Hawai‘i Kai has been a go-to pau hana spot for O‘ahu’s East Side since 2003. The restaurant, which took home Bronze for Best Brew Pub in this year’s Hale ‘Aina Awards, serves an impressive selection of beers, local twists on bar favorites and a relaxing ocean view.

Before you ask: Yes, there’s outdoor seating, along with a breezy, open-space indoor dining area with full-length windows that allow you to take in the lush views of East O‘ahu from any seat in the house. The pub features an open kitchen concept, a nod to Kona Brewing Co.’s flagship location in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, where guests can watch executive chef Rob Oset and his team work their magic. The bar is home to a 48-tap beer delivery system and also serves beers from Kona Brewing’s Backyard Batch series—specialty beers that can only be found at Kona Brewing Co. pubs.

Beer and bites go hand in hand, and Kona Brewing offers a broad selection of pūpū to pair with their wide selection of liquid hops. Along with familiar choices such as Uncle’s ‘Ahi Poke and sliders, one of the pub’s biggest crowd pleasers is the house-made Pawai Pepperoni Rolls, featuring fresh dough made with Longboard Lager that’s rolled with pepperoni, mozzarella and ranch dressing and served with house tomato sauce. (Tip: Pair this app with a Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale!)

For bigger appetites, the pub has plenty of entrées on the menu as well, including the popular Paniolo Burger, a half-pounder patty of premium beef that’s cooked to order and topped with cheddar, bacon, onion rings and Black Sand barbecue sauce, all between a soft, buttery, fresh-baked brioche bun.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing dinner with your family, a casual business meeting during the week or a fun hangout with the friends, this East Side pub is the perfect spot to get happy during pau hana, offered every Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 p.m. Kona Brewing Hawai‘i Kai is currently offering dine-in and takeout options.
