Banana crème pies from Leoda’s, dry mein from Sam Sato’s, stick donuts from Komoda Store and cheeseburgers from Archie’s are all things I love when I’m on Maui. So many guilty pleasures, right? But despite what’s on my Instagram feed, I often crave fresh vegetables. So I was excited to hear about a new salad spot in Kihei. Because, balance.

Fork and Salad Maui opened in late August in Azeka Shopping Center (Mauka), and it’s already bustling. The restaurant is led by chef-owners Jaron Blosser, Cody Christopher and Travis Morrin, who own Three’s Bar and Grill in Kihei. Their mission is to make farm-to-table cuisine accessible, healthy and affordable and support Maui’s agriculture industry.

menu

The menu features a variety of salads, sandwiches and soups, and you can create your own custom salad. A colorful chalkboard highlights the local farms that Fork and Salad sources from, such as Kumu Farms, Okoa Farms, Maui Dragon Fruit Farm, Olapono Farms, Hana Fresh and others. They also sell yummy Pono Pies, which are gluten-free and made with ulu (breadfruit) from Maui.

I ordered a hearty kabocha squash and strawberry spinach salad, tomato bisque soup and Dawn Patrol juice, which filled me up. Everything wonderfully fresh, lightly seasoned and dressed to perfection.

With its straightforward menu and the option of customizing your salad, this seems like a place you can visit often and not get tired of. Plus it’s nice to see a new type of “plate lunch” spring up. Fork and Salad is a great addition to Kihei, and I’ll be back.
