Shades of Shave Ice: Local Fruit Shines at Waikīkī’s New Shave Ice Shop

Local Honey Cream pineapple, liliko‘i and mango pair up with Banán’s banana soft-serve on the boardwalk.

Shades of Shave Ice explores the rainbow of expressions of our favorite summertime treat. From its ethnic origins to farm-fresh flavors and must-have toppings, we’re spotlighting O‘ahu’s shave ice scene one or two shops at a time.

In the first episode of Shades of Shave Ice, we head to a new shop with a familiar name: Banán Shave Ice and Beach Treats in Waikīkī. The stand opened in early July on the makai side of the Castle Waikīkī Shore to crowds of sun-soaked beachgoers, the latest project by the team that’s behind the Banán soft-serve shops in Kailua and Waikīkī. The menu here highlights shave ice with fruity, locally sourced flavors like Honey Cream pineapple and guava, which can be had with or without the plant-based banana soft serve. Customize your bowl or choose one of the signature combinations—just don’t forget to finish it off with a coconut condensed milk drizzle for a truly tropical experience.
