Shave ice, every one is different. Do you look for the finest ice? House-made syrups and mochi balls? Or the place with the best memories from small-kid time?
When we published a staff roundup of our favorite shave ice spots on O‘ahu, two things happened: The post became sticky, continuing to appear among our most-viewed articles. And on Instagram, it drew 114 comments, including suggestions for 17 more places not on our combined list.
Some of the suggestions are legendary, while others are for tiny favorites, including two shave ice trucks, a swap meet stall and a counter in a surf apparel shop. Each has fans ardent enough to want to tell us about them.
