Munch: Wine & Dine

When you think of Apartment3, you might think of a beautifully decorated upscale lounge with gourmet comfort food and happy-hour deals that attract a mixed crowd of clubbers. However by creating a monthly event called Munch, owners Matty and Flash want to showcase different avenues of food and liquor.

Munch is a three-course meal: an appetizer, main course and dessert accompanied with an alcoholic pairing. This month’s Munch theme was Whiskey and Sake. Normally, I don’t drink whiskey, but when I heard that Better Brands’ in-house mixologist Joey Gottesman was in charge of the drinks, I wanted to see what pairings were in store for the night. Joey has many years under his belt and is known for his interesting alcoholic concoctions. When I asked Gottesman what was his inspiration was for the drinks, he blatantly said that, “when matching drinks, you either pair it with the sauce or the protein. In tonight’s menu, it’s the protein.”

As far as the food, executive chef James Lewis had an Asian-American menu for the night.

Munch certainly brings something new to the table. I recommend it to anyone who wants a wine-and-dine experience, whether it’s as a couple or in a group. The event is held every last Thursday of the month. The next Munch event is March 31 and starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $45 per person plus tax and 20 percent auto-gratuity. You must make make a reservation for this event since there are only 30 seats.

In my opinion, Apartment3 has one of the best decorated lounges in Hawaii.
