Girls’ Day is this Friday, March 3. Even if you’re still polishing off your Valentine’s chocolates (we see your stash) and licking your lips at the memory of Fat Tuesday malasadas, it’s time for mochi and more treats! Because in Hawai‘i at least, Girls’ Day is about far more than mochi. What started as a Japanese tradition celebrating little daughters is now a local celebration of all girls and women, who on March 3 especially deserve kawaii pink treats.

Here’s our sister publication HONOLULU Magazine’s guide to mochi in Hawai‘i. And below, you’ll find places where you can get your mochi and other Girls’ Day sweets on.

Stuck on mochi? Here’s our 2022 review of three Honolulu mochi shops. Nisshodo’s hours are indeed until 2 p.m. and Minamoto Kitchoan’s buy-six-get-one-free sakura mochi special is on again this year.

Update: Kansai Yamato has relocated to Puck’s Alley at 1035 University Ave. and is NOT at the former Moanalua 99 site.
