Where to Park in Kaimukī

Want to shop or dine in Kaimukī? Here’s an insider guide on where you should park.

Kaimukī is one of Honolulu’s hottest neighborhoods for dining at local eateries and shopping small, but parking can seem challenging depending on where you want to go. Keep calm and keep it Kaimukī—we got you. Our parking guide covers the public lots and popular destinations with designated spots.

Kaimukī Municipal Lot 1

This is the biggest lot in the neighborhood and in the middle of many of our favorite shops and restaurants, including Koko Head Café, Sugarcane, Kim Chee II and Kaimukī Shokudo.

 

Weekday parking rates:

  • Up to 30 min: $0.75
  • 30 min to 1 hr: $1.50
  • 1 to 1.5 hrs: $2.25
  • 1.5 to 2 hrs: $3
  • Each additional 30 min: $1.50

 

Weekend and holiday parking rates:

  • Up to 1 hr: $0.75
  • 1 to 2 hrs: $1.50
  • 2 to 3 hrs: $2.25
  • 3 to 4 hrs: $3
  • Each additional hour: $0.75

 

There is a free grace period of 20 min. The lost ticket fee is $21.

 

There are three entrances:

  • On 11th Ave.
  • On 12th Ave. – next to Koko Head Café
  • On 12th Ave. – next to Duk Kee

Kaimukī Municipal Lot 2

Right across the street is the other most popular Kaimukī parking lot with the cheapest rate at $0.75 an hour daily, which is why it’s often full. But if you get lucky and find a spot, you can park for up to 2 hours.

 

There are four entrances:

  • On 12th Ave. – next to the Kaimukī Professional Building and across from the Kaimukī Municipal Lot 1 entrance
  • On Harding Ave. – next to the gas station
  • On Koko Head Ave. – next to Jose’s Mexican Café & Cantina
  • On Mahina St. – in the middle of the block across from the Kumon

Metered Street Parking

Metered street parking is available all along Wai‘alae Ave. for $1.50 an hour. Some spots are also available on Koko Head Ave. and 12th Ave. The meters accept coins or card payments. You can park for up to 1 hour. On Sundays and state holidays, metered street parking is free.

Kaimukī Businesses With Parking

The following shopping centers, buildings and individual businesses have dedicated parking lots for customers. They are listed in alphabetical order.

Asahi Grill Kaimukī

Asahi Grill has 30 parking stalls in different areas. To the left of the building are a handful of stalls. On the right, in front of the building with Salz Lock & Safe (3012 Wai‘alae Ave), are a few 15-minute parking spots for Asahi Grill marked with signs. To the right of that lot is another enclosed lot with several stalls labeled reserved for Asahi Grill.

Boston Pizza Kaimukī

In front of Sushiya and Boston Pizza are several parking stalls. Note that this parking lot can be challenging to exit since you may need to reverse into traffic.

Babes Bakery, Hihimanu Sushi, Nola Café, Vons Chicken Kaimukī

On the corner of Wai‘alae Ave. and St. Louis Dr. are two buildings that house a few of our favorite Kaimukī eateries: Babes Bakery, Hihimanu Sushi, Nola Café and Vons Chicken Kaimukī. But beware: the parking lot is notoriously hard to navigate with its odd shape.

Breadshop, The Curb Kaimukī and Chillest Shave Ice

Behind the building of Breadshop, The Curb Kaimukī and Chillest Shave Ice is a small parking lot. It’s one-way; the covered entrance is right next to Breadshop. Parking is free for customers, but pay attention to the signs since some spots are reserved.

Brew’d Craft Pub

Brew’d has its own parking lot with several stalls behind the building on 9th Ave., just past Lē‘ahi Health.

This locally owned pet supply store shares a lot with FedEx, directly across from W&M Bar-B-Q Burger on Wai‘alae Avenue.

Daily Whisk Matcha and Ten Tomorrow

Local clothing boutique Ten Tomorrow, known for breezy resortwear, houses one of O‘ahu’s most popular matcha shops, Daily Whisk Matcha. Park in the small lot out front of the cottage-turned-store and browse the selection with an iced matcha in hand. If the lot is full, you can park at Kaimukī Municipal Lot 1, which is right across the street.

Franklin Variety Building

Behind Franklin Variety Building, which houses Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery and Yakitori Ando, is a small, free parking lot for customers. Across and a little up the street is another lot where Franklin Variety Building customers can park for free in stalls 15–28.

Goodwill Kaimukī

Goodwill is in Civil Beat Plaza, but the onsite parking is for patrons of other businesses in the building ($3 for 30 minutes). Goodwill customers can park for free across the street at 1217 Wilhelmina Rise in stalls 68–79.

Island-Boy Shop and Keep It Simple Honolulu

The parking lot for Island-Boy Shop and Keep It Simple is around the corner on 9th Ave., tucked behind a house. You can park for free for 1 hour.

Kaimukī Dry Goods

Customers of the fabric shop can park for free in the parking lot next to the Isoshima Building. Nine stalls are designated for Kaimukī Dry Goods (read the labels on the asphalt). Also, note that 10th Ave. is a one-way street.

Kaimukī Shopping Center

This central neighborhood mall has staples like Times Supermarket and Longs Drugs alongside smaller businesses like Fairwood Drive Inn and Higoto Japanese Eatery. There are two levels of parking with entrances on 4th and 5th Ave. Customers can park for up to 2 hours.

Lafite Plaza

The orange two-story building on Wai‘alae is home to Plantoem, one of our favorite plant shops with its own café, as well as Champs Sports Bar and a couple other businesses. Free parking for customers is available on the second floor; go up the ramp to the right of the building.

Mud Hen Water

Behind Mud Hen Water, Little Vessels Donut Co., Local I‘a and the Local General Store is a small lot on 9th Ave. with a handful of stalls for customers. It’s quite narrow, so you’ll likely need to reverse out to the street to exit.

Free validated parking for restaurant guests is available in the 3660 Wai‘alae Building for up to five hours. Enter from Wilhelmina Rise, take a ticket and park in any visitor parking or unmarked stall on three levels.

W&M Bar-B-Q Burger

W&M has six stalls out front, which are usually taken during peak lunch hours, but people typically come and go quickly after picking up their orders.

You may also find free street parking in the residential areas of Kaimukī, but always check any nearby signs for parking restrictions and don’t block anyone’s driveway.

 


 

XO Restaurant

Kenny Lee’s restaurant of upscale small plates has its own parking lot in front, and street parking nearby.
