Kaanapali Fresh: Cocktails and a progressive dinner

Maui’s big Kaanapali Fresh event kicked off yesterday with two events that showcased local ingredients straight from Maui’s farmers: A mixology seminar, and a progressive dinner.

Whether you’re into creating cocktails or new to making drinks, the mixology seminar addressed a wide audience and exposed everyone to trying new ingredients. I’ve been to a few of these on Oahu, but I learned a couple of new things and even (finally!) created a cocktail I like.

The progressive dinner was interesting, with dinner at one location and dessert at another. It was a good way for different properties to show off their creativity or signature dishes through a range of local ingredients, and I like taking these in little bites. This way, you’re not stuck with the same dish through dinner, and if you like something, you can go back for seconds. The night was capped off with a concert by Jake Shimabukuro, who was amazing, as usual. Two women flew in from Montana just for this concert!

After a pretty mellow morning, we revved up the afternoon with a mixology workshop at the Royal Lahaina Resort. We were greeted with cocktails, of course.
