Inside view: The Waikiki Edition hotel
I got to take an inside peek at The Waikiki Edition, a new boutique hotel operated by the Marriott. The concept of the small luxe hotel, conceptualized by hipster designer Ian Schrager and part of a chain of Edition hotels, is based on Hawaiian plantation homes. The hotel is designed with modern furniture and offers guests a sense that they have their own private oasis.
The Edition name is based on the idea that each hotel will become an individually tailored hotel that encompasses the city it’s located in. The hotel is chic and hip from the decor to amenities, and many of the social areas serve dual purposes. For instance, the pool area turns into a lounge at night, while the sunrise pool hosts a movie night every Thursday. World-renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto also offers a fusion of Western and Japanese cuisine at the new Morimoto Waikiki.
The Waikiki Edition runs from $375 a night for a city view, while an ocean-view room starts off at $475. Kama’aina rates start at $195 a night.
