ICYMI: A Fresh Matt Bruening Collection and Three New Local Labels You’ll Love from the Mixtisque Runway Show
Get a first look at all the Island-chic fashions.

On Nov. 1, HiSAM Museum Gallery Shop and Mori by Art + Flea put on another great First Friday event—Mixtisque, A Night of Fashion at Hawai‘i State Art Museum. The evening’s runway show featured bold looks from This Must Be The Place, Island designer Matt Bruening’s Resort 2020 collection. Bruening even paired some of his lively palaka and architectural-inspired prints with sleek body harnesses by fellow local designer Reise Kochi and cross-body leather wallets by Honolulu designwares shop Mōno Hawai‘i.
The show also marked the debut of three new local labels, including the simple-chic Citadine line dreamt up by La Muse boutique owner Julia Chu. Laha‘ole Designs, helmed by jewelry designer Tanya Uehara, showcased the delicate florals of its ‘Ilima collection. And textile artist Meleina Hancock’s painterly prints shined in her label Okika Cloth’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection.
