‘Five-0’ Preview: ‘Palekaiko’

I know I wasn’t alone last week in feeling “Hawaii Five-0” withdrawal, with CBS airing the season’s first rerun. Sure, it was the episode that featured Kukui High School, but I especially missed the live “#h50” commentary on Twitter.
I admit. It’s the campy, geeky highlight of my Monday night.
The fun returns this week with “Palekaiko,” or “paradise,” which also brings back “Heroes” fan favorite Masi Oka as the perhaps overly quirky medical examiner, Dr. Max Bergman.
Sneak Peek
A couple on a Hawaii honeymoon end up making the wrong kind of memories, with the wife kidnapped and the husband murdered. The investigation puts the “Five-0” team on the trail of a serial killer. Despite the high stakes, though, it looks like Steve McGarrett and Chin Ho Kelly (Alex O’Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kim) get some R&R, spear fishing on the Windward Side:
Familiar Faces
In addition to Oka, this week’s episode features Sheila Kelley, an actress who’s also known for her “strip workouts,” an exercise routine with a decidedly sexy twist. “LOST” fans will recognize her as hapless scientist Zoe, which may or may not be a good thing.
We’ll also see Peyton List, who was last seen in recurring roles on “Mad Men” and the short-lived “FlashForward,” as well as Joel Tobeck (“Sons of Anarchy”) and John Rhys Coiro (“Entourage,” “24”).
Tidbits
- There wasn’t much Twitter talk on Monday, but on Tuesday, there was perhaps too much of it when actress Taryn Manning, who plays McGarrett’s sister Mary, unleashed an angry rant after an apparently tough day on the “Five-0” set. She wrote, among other things, “Ya this show is lame, treats people… awful. Let’s let it be known H50 suxxx!” A little while later, though, the critical posts disappeared. Exective Producer Peter Lenkov called for calm, tweeting, “Kid needed to vent, I guess… please cut her some slack. She just finished shooting a very emotional episode.”
- Last week’s episode of “Hawaii Five-0” was the first rerun of the season. Nonetheless, in the ratings, it came in first in viewers (7.71 million), households, and adults 25-54 as well as adults 18-49.
- The last new episode, which aired Thanksgiving week, brought in some of the show’s best numbers since its premiere, coming in first in viewers (12.34 million), households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.
