Fashionista’s Market Annual Closet Swap
Instead of spending money on the latest fashions, how about swapping clothes with other fashionable females and doing it for a great cause? More than 200 people came to Sunday’s 5th Annual Fashionista’s Market Closet Swap at the Japanese Cultural Center, which included more than 5,000 items. The event raised money for the Leeward Domestic Abuse Shelter.
For the swap, you could only take the same number of items you brought. In my case, I came with 29 items (clothes and accessories).
During the event, local designer Cassandra Rull also took old women’s clothes and turned them into fashionable pieces. Likewise, gals brought broken jewelry, which Studio Bijoux Hawaii turned into new bling. There also were tons of giveaways, from shopping certificates to spa treatments. The highlight of the event: the famous newspaper fashion show (which I was randomly picked to participate in). It’s a group activity, where participants create an outfit out of newspapers based on a theme, which this year was “super hero.”
It was a great way to spend time with some of the lovely women in my life, grab trendy clothes and help a worthy nonprofit.
