Eat the Street Bacon

The scene was all about bacon Friday night in Kakaako, with dozens of trucks and booths featuring at least one new bacon dish each on their menus, and eaters scarfing it up.

How much do we love bacon? Sellouts started as early as 5 p.m., one hour into the event. The honors went to Fairycakes’ butterum bacon lollipops and its bacon bento box. Then Aloha Ice Cream Tricycle’s caramel bacon fudgesicle, and Paul’s Popper’s bacon poppers, and Liquid Pleasure’s bacon maple milkshake, and Braddahs’ bacon shrimp lettuce wraps, and Blanc Hawaii’s grilled jumbo shrimp with candied bacon garnish: one by one the sold-out signs went up.

Good thing bacon was only a fraction of the food. Honolulu was hungry. By the end of the night, trucks had sold out of their entire menus. Here are scenes from the foodfest.
