Frolic’s 4th Annual Poke Fest is now history and the results are in. Mahalo to all the poke fans who came to our drive-thru event last Saturday at Ka Makana Ali‘i, mahalo to presenting sponsor Fresh Island Fish, and mahalo to the eight beloved poke shops and vendors who outdid themselves to create ‘onolicious new varieties for the sold-out event.

We had live deejay Magician Kaulana, Miss Hawai‘i Courtney Choy and Miss Hawai‘i’s Outstanding Teen 2021 Ilima Sexton handing out balloons for keiki. We had swag from sponsors Foodland and Ka Makana Ali‘i and a step-and-repeat where you could get your photo taken in your car. We even had desserts from Mahi‘ai Table at Foodland Farms, Uncle Lani’s Poi Mochi and Sticky Fingers. But the main attraction was poke—specifically the chance to try eight great new ones from top poke makers vying for the chance to be voted King of Poke Fest.

So whose poke got the most votes in our fan favorite poll? The choices this year were:

  • Foodland: Birria Tako Poke
  • Kahiau Poke: Tataki Poke with House-Made Ponzu Sauce
  • Nico’s Pier 38: Korean Style A‘u Poke
  • Redfish: Black & Bleu ‘Ahi Poke
  • Kalapawai Market: Ume Hijiki ‘Ahi Poke
  • Tamashiro Market: ‘Ahi Poke with Creamy Crab Sauce
  • Alicia’s Market: Spicy Deep Sea Red Crab
  • Poke by the Pound: Garlic ‘Ahi Poke

And the winner, for the third year running, is Tamashiro Market!

Congratulations to Tamashiro and all the Poke Fest shops and vendors—voting was fierce, accompanied by posts on social media from people agonizing over multiple favorites. Every poke choice had its fans, so here’s some good news: Many shops will be selling their Poke Fest creations, at least for a limited time.
