Embark on an epicurean experience designed to delight all the senses at 53 By The Sea’s Taste of Kyoto in mid-March. This weeklong event will feature six-Michelin-star chef Kunio Tokuoka — executive chef of Japan’s Kyoto Kitcho — creating authentic Kyoto dining experiences in an oceanfront restaurant transformed to make you feel like you’re dining in Japan.
Tokuoka will be in Honolulu for three exclusive events on March 13, 15 and 16 at 53 By The Sea. Each meal in the three-part culinary series is inspired by Tokuoka’s cuisine at Kyoto Kitcho, widely recognized as the epitome of Japanese fine dining.

The three-part series includes:
Chef Tokuoka’s Omakase Lunch Course: Tuesday, March 13 (11:30 a.m. tea, 12 p.m. lunch)
This event starts with a Japanese tea ceremony, followed by flavors of Kyoto presented in the kaiseki tradition of elegant seasonal, regional small courses served at a leisurely pace. Price: $185 (includes beverage pairing, tax and service). Limit: 100 guests.
Evening Extraordinaire: Thursday, March 15 (6 p.m. cocktails, 6:30 p.m. dinner)
Three world-class chefs and one master sommelier join forces to take diners on a cultural culinary journey of a lifetime. Chefs Kunio Tokuoka (Kyoto Kitcho), Alan Wong (Alan Wong’s Restaurants) and Chris Kajioka (Senia) and Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo will collaborate on an elegant multicourse dinner to honor the 150th anniversary of Gannenmono, the first organized group of about 148 Japanese immigrants who arrived in Hawaii in 1868 (Gannenmono translates as “people of the first year”). Price: $615 (includes aperitifs, wine pairing, tax and service). Limit: 100 guests.
Kyoto Kitcho Experience: Friday, March 16 (5 p.m. first seating, 8 p.m. second seating)
Kyoto Kitcho is the pinnacle of the kaiseki culinary tradition, and diners will get to enjoy a creative, immersive dining experience that awakens all of the senses. Price: $800 for first seating (includes sake pairing, tax and service) or $900 for second seating (includes Japan-exclusive sake pairing, a special after-dinner experience with Chef Tokuoka, tax and service). Limit: 25 guests.
