A movement: First Lady launch

A full house of female musicians, entrepreneurs and artists came to the Honolulu Design Center this past Thursday to celebrate First Lady the Movement, a female empowerment organization that started in 2008.

Founder Donna Mae Rizando started the creative collective after she and several of her friends went through a series of unfortunate events. “I wanted to do something that would encourage all females to stand up and achieve their dreams,” said Rizando, a 21-year-old San Jose State student.

The crowd was serenaded by the acoustic sounds of Tiffany Ganotisi, while DJ Betty spun the 1’s and 2’s. The Honolulu Design Center provided a happy-hour food and drink menu for the event. Among the vendors were iKandy, Fashionate traveling boutique, The Proper Fit accessories, The Butik and My Lil’ Cupcake.
