Eating is believing: Herringbone Waikiki’s $2 oyster hour
Happy hour = half-off oysters, bar-only items and that famous buffalo octopus

The deets
Herringbone Waikiki has updated their happy hour, aka oyster hour. It’s trimmed some items from the menu and added others, but the main point is this: You can still get fresh oysters flown in daily for half the regular price of $4.
Oyster hour starts at 4 p.m. in the lounge and continues at the bar when that opens at 5 p.m. Last call is at 6 p.m., which is plenty of time for more oysters and cocktails. Which you will want, because the mixologist is none other than Nick Carter, formerly of Palate and Bevy.

The East and West Coast oyster selection changes daily, so ask your server what’s available. They’re served with kimchee mignonette, apple cider and a spicy cocktail sauce. This two buck shuck is a bangin’ deal because the oysters are always fresh.

The picture doesn’t do this dish justice. You get a tang and slight heat from the buffalo sauce, and the octopus is cooked perfectly — delectably chewy but not rubbery, with a hint of crunch on the outside. It’s definitely a must-order. During oyster hour, this appetizer is $10 cheaper than the $21 dinnertime price. It’s worth it to get one per person.

The crispy candied pecans balance the softer brussels sprouts. Smoky, savory, nutty flavors are on point, making this my go-to when I’m craving veggies. These are also worth a double order.

Oyster hour drinks include $5 beers, $6 wines and $7 cocktails.
