6 Places to Find Your Perfect Halloween Costume in Honolulu
What’s trick-or-treating, a scary movie marathon or a Halloween rager without the perfect costume? If you’ve got it, haunt it. If you don’t, check out these six Halloween costume shops.
1. Goodwill

Every October, Goodwill stores become costume chop shops. The Kaimukī location’s special Halloween section, called The Halloween Bootique, offers a selection of new costume sets and accessories, most under $20. But the thrift store is best known as a great place to mix and match pieces to create your own costume. Larger branches even offer books of costume suggestions for adults, children and yup, pets, to make it easier for you to shop.

2. Savers

Similar to Goodwill, Savers encourages shoppers to take the DIY route and assemble costumes from its many racks of thrifty wares. Planning a zombie tourist look? Make a beeline for the aloha shirt section. Thinking Freddy Krueger? They’ve got striped tees galore. If you prefer something new, you’ll want to check out the store’s Halloween corner filled with budget-friendly costumes and accessories. There’s even an entire wall devoted to wigs.

3. Party City

Party City is probably the most well-known place for Halloween costumes for adults and keiki. Head straight for the back-left corner and you’ll find the costume menu of your dreams. Scan the wall of pictures for the costume you want, then find a staffer to unearth one in your size from the shop’s stockroom. Looking for something more customized? The store also carries a wide variety of Halloween masks and accessories.

4. FloraDec

FloraDec is a better known for party décor than Halloween gears, but its costume selection, which include mostly complete outfits, occupies several full aisles within its warehouse. The selection here seems to stray away from anything too scary and costs range from around $20 to $70 for head-to-toe looks, though children’s costumes were a bit less.

5. Hot Topic

For those looking for something low-key, head to Hot Topic. The trendy shop may not have a full range of outfits, but it’s got great bits and pieces for casual costumes. Tie-dye T-shirts, super hero graphic tees, patterned tights, and unicorn onesies are just some of the Halloween finds here. Plus, you’ll be scoring pieces that you can rock long after the haunting season is over.

6. Spirit Halloween

Last but definitely not least, there’s Spirit Halloween, the seasonal pop-up shop that’s the embodiment of Halloween itself. If you’re looking for that extra edge, Spirit Halloween is the place for you. The costume packages generally range from $20 to $70, however they also have battery-operated inflatable costumes up to $160. The store also stocks a ton of makeup, masks, wigs and accessories.
