These Hidden Gems in Kalihi Might Surprise You

Some neighborhoods surprise you—and Kalihi is one of them. There are some hidden gems and great values tucked away in Kalihi, with its quick commute to Downtown and even the Windward Side. Right now, 28 homes are available for sale in Kalihi, ranging in price from $223,000 (leasehold) to $1,399,000. The Multiple Listing Service, or MLS, splits what we commonly call Kalihi into six separate neighborhoods: Kalihi Kai, Kalihi Area, Kalihi Kua, Kalihi Valley, Kalihi Upper and Kalihi Lower.
The most makai area, around Dillingham and “in town,” is Kalihi Area, where one can find a condo for as little as $223,000. It’s what many of us picture when we think of Kalihi. The area near the H-1 freeway is Kalihi Lower, a rare place in the Honolulu metro area where one can still find a home for $625,000.
Kalihi Uka is on the Diamond Head side of the valley, just as the valley walls begin to rise. And then you get into the valley, site of some hidden gems, especially in Kalihi Upper and Kalihi Valley. The home at 3039 Ukiuki Place recently sold for $830,000, just a bit higher than the current median home price on O‘ahu. It’s in excellent condition, just far enough off of Likelike Highway to be quiet, but close enough to get you to the highway in minutes. It’s a 2,435-square-foot home on an 8,017-square-foot lot.
