Since opening its doors at Kū‘ono Marketplace, Yohei Sushi Kāhala has quietly made a name for itself — not just for its pristine cuts of fish or curated sake list, but for the philosophy that drives every detail of the experience. “Our business is built on three key principles,” says general manager Nobuhiro Miyazaki. “To honor the 150-year history of Japanese immigrants, to show gratitude to Hawai‘i for embracing peaceful cultural integration, and to give back by offering the very best we can.”

That spirit of omotenashi, or thoughtful hospitality, is felt the moment you walk in. From sushi flown in fresh from Japan to sake selections unavailable anywhere else on O‘ahu, the restaurant’s attention to detail reflects deep cultural pride and culinary precision. The Kāhala location marks Yohei’s second restaurant in the Islands, and while it’s only been a year, customer support has grown steadily. “We feel truly proud and grateful,” Miyazaki says.

As for what’s next? A new omakase course debuts in June, drawing inspiration from the flavors of Japanese summer. An à la carte menu update is also in the works, with seasonal ingredients playing a starring role. Through it all, Yohei’s mission remains clear: “We hope that more and more people will choose to visit Yohei Sushi Kāhala,” Miyazaki says. “Even if you haven’t yet, we’re confident you’ll leave with a smile.”
