What’s Open and Closed in Honolulu for General Election Day

State, city, county offices are closed Tuesday, November 4 in observance of General Election Day, a state holiday. Federal offices are open and mail will be delivered.

Public schools, the University of Hawai‘i and some private schools are closed while others remain open.

  • TheBus will operate on a normal weekday schedule (school day off weekday schedule).  For route and schedule information, please visit www.thebus.org.

  • On-street parking is free, except for the meters on Kalākaua Avenue along Kapi‘olani Park and metered parking lots.

  • Traffic lanes will not be coned for contraflow.

  • The Neal S. Blaisdell Center Box Office will be closed.

  • All Satellite City Halls and Driver’s License offices will be closed.

  • The People’s Open Markets will not be held. 

  • Emergency ambulance, fire, lifeguard and police services will be available.

  • Refuse will be collected.  Landfills and transfer stations will be open.

  • Parks, municipal golf courses, botanical gardens, and the Honolulu Zoo will be open.

  • The Blood Bank and Hawaiian Humane Society are open.

  • Most visitor attractions are open (except Bishop Museum and Lyon Arboretum).
