Q: Have bacon-cheese crisps reached a new pinnacle?
I am always on the lookout for a new snack to add to my arsenal of low-carb treats. I was pleasantly surprised recently during a visit to Costco Iwilei to find a new twist on the cheese crisps fad.
I will say the packaging caught my eye immediately. BACON, it screamed up front, followed by cheddar. Sonoma Creamery has blended real applewood-smoked bacon and cheese and baked them with organic brown rice and oat bran into a certified gluten-free treat. Carbohydrate-wise it is about 1 gram per crisp, which is not bad. That’s about 70 carbs for the whole bag. A serving of 6 pieces has 10 grams of protein. I was on it!
I will admit I busted into the bag right there, much to the chagrin of my wife. Yes, I paid for it.
As the advertising stated, these snacks were crisp (with a very satisfying crunch), flavorful and just the right size for a bite. They are salty, but noticeably less so than many other cheddar and parmesan crisps now on the market. Four bags went home immediately — actually three and a half bags by the time I munched my way to the register.
A: Yes!
At $7.49 for a 10 oz. bag (with Costco coupon until Feb. 4), these are a winner! They even paired well with a glass of red wine later that night. Carbohydrate-wise it is about 1 gram per crisp, which is not bad. That’s about 70 carbs for the whole bag. A serving of 6 pieces has 10 grams of protein.
If you are a cheddar and bacon devotee, I highly recommend picking up a bag on your next visit to Costco.
