To Do: Eat. Shop. Repeat.

Lei Chic's guide to the weekend's best events.

Shop
Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow
What: We wrote about the I Am shop in 2011, so we’re especially bummed to see this Kap‘iolani fixture bid adieu. It’s going out with a bang though, with a final sale of up to 70 percent off. This is your last chance to snag something from the store’s unique mix of street-smart, urban and versatile pieces for city-slicking guys and gals.

When: Through Sept. 30.
Where: 1221 Kap‘iolani Blvd.
Details: Monday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Call 593-2767 for more information.

Eat
Let’s Go Deutsch
What: The best part of fall may be Halloween for the kiddies, but for us adults it’s the beautiful holiday of Oktoberfest. Celebrate German culture (or at least the German love of beer and sausage) at the latest Oktoberfest-themed Eat the Street, which will feature a beer garden, contest for best sausage and more than 40 other food vendors. Better bring your big lederhosen.
When: Friday, Sept. 26, 4–9 p.m.
Where: 555 South St.
Details: Visit eatthestreethawaii.com for more information.

Shop
Grass-cutes
What: Lei Chic is all about amazing independent designers, so when we heard that Club Monaco was tapping into the talents of cool grassroots creatives from across the globe for its latest accessories line, The Pieces, we were totally psyched. The resulting collection is fierce and modern, with cool, edgy details and minimalist charm. Think gold safety-pin-and-pearl earrings, and crystal and rainbow-spike studs.

Where: clubmonaco.com
Details: Read more about the pieces and designers here.

Eat
Rice, Rice Baby
What: You know you’re from Hawai‘i when you love rice the way others love dessert. Don’t miss celebrating your fave grain at the 5th Annual Hawai‘i Rice Festival, which will feature oodles of food vendors, a Spam musubi-eating contest and celebrity chef cooking demonstrations. Oh, and an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest loco moco ever. This is history in the making, people!

When: Sunday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Ward Centers
Details: Visit ricefest.com for more information.

Shop
In a Barbie World
What: Last season it was McDonald’s. This season, fashion house Moschino draws inspiration from Barbie, with poppy pink ensembles and big blonde coifs for a flashy look that has got the Internet blowing up with glee—or maybe fascination. The new collection only hit the runways last week, but it’s already available at Nordstrom stores. Our favorite piece? The phone case that looks like a Barbie hand mirror.

When: Available now
Where: Nordstrom, Ala Moana Center
Details: You know your collection is going to turn some heads when Chiara Ferragni, aka style blogger extraordinaire of The Blonde Salad, was spotted sporting a look from the collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Shop
Basic Britches
What: Something is happening. We’re not sure what it means, but we’re in the midst of a massive shift, from a time where “basic” was an adjective that pissed off Lauren Conrad and meant something vaguely related to pumpkin spice lattes and saying “I can’teven,” to a time when Vogue bases an entire web style roundup around the concept. Whatever, some of these pieces are kind of cute. And, honestly, who doesn’t like pumpkin spice lattes?

Where: vogue.com
Details: Want some “basic” history? Here’s the Kreayshawn video that started it all.

Watch
Hey, Girl
What: Because Lena Dunham is just a better, cooler, funnier girl than we are (admit it), it makes sense that we’d go to her for advice on the important things in life, such as “how to be a feminist in booty shorts,” or “how to ditch awful garbage of men.” Thank goodness for her new series of videos, created to promote her new book, Not That Kind of Girl. The answers, ladies, are within.

Where: Watch them all on youtube.com.
Details: Love her outfit, her fake sketching of an office and her just-funny-enough #realtalk.
