The Way We Wear

Fashion IS art, and the proof was on display Friday night at the Hawaii State Art Museum (HiSAM). The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and HiSAM hosted this First Friday event as part of Hawaii Fashion Month. Under the creative direction of Moana Events, Hawaii designers showcased classic and eclectic bridal and evening gowns against the historical backdrop of the sculptured garden.
Featured designers included Nicole Vermillion, Lauren Tiburcio, Beverly Horton, Bernard Foong, Sarah Yamashige, Randy A. Leano, Jaclyn Mae Santos, Chun Hui Chen, Sahra Indio, Feliz Salas, Alegra Matsuo Mossman and Michele Y. Matsuo, Ryan Hanaoka, Erin Midori Ludolph and Breanne Lee. The designers were paired with industry mentors such as Eric Chandler, Takeo Kobayashi, Dianne Washington Kay and Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero. Models from Niche Models and Talent captured the essence of this high-end runway show. The hair and make-up was spot-on by Muse Agenci as was the styling by Morgan Childs.
The evening marked the opening of The Way We wear, an exhibit that offers a glimpse of history through clothing. The display features selections from the Hawaii State Foundation’s Art in Public Places Collection and stunning pieces on loan from the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Historic Costume Museum. The exhibit runs through December.
