The Joy of Sake 2016
Kanpai! Sake lovers converged on the Hawaii Convention Center last night for the sold-out 2016 edition of The Joy of Sake, an annual event known both as the largest public sake-tasting celebration outside Japan and one of the best places to sample exceptional, artistically crafted small plates from some of Hawaii’s top restaurants. Standout dishes this year included the luxurious, melt-in-your mouth A5 Wagyu Beef Tataki from Teppanyaki Ginza Onodera, Buho’s Peruvian seafood ceviche on a plantain chip, Banzai Sushi Bar’s Fresh Striped Marlin Carpaccio and Pig & The Lady’s creative Grape & Ogo Poke.
With a record 408 sakes, the daiginjo category was still the most popular, attendees taking full advantage of the chance to try many premium varieties that are not sold in the U.S.
Miss Sake Japan 2016 was in attendance, one of several notables from Japan present.
