Thank a Hawaii Teacher for National Teacher Appreciation Week

Just tag @honolulumag and #thankateacher, and we'll honor the men and women that left the greatest impressions on you during your most formative years by posting your tweets on this page.

Here are the teachers Honolulu Magazine staff members are thanking:

"I took Japanese language in high school, and when I visited Japan for the first time last year, I was able to put everything I still remembered into good use. Our guide was impressed with my accent and how much I knew. I have Sensei Brenda Nomura to thank for that!" – Lennie Omalza, Special Projects Editor

"My favorite teacher growing up was Mrs. Anne LeBlanc-Erquiza. Her quirky surfer dude statue and cow skull inspired me to be a writer when I was in the third grade at Kamiloiki Elementary School. May she rest in peace." – Katrina Valcourt, Assistant Managing Editor

"One of my favorite teachers made me into an angry cookie, a drug dealer, a four leaf clover and a cougar. Mrs. Yvonne Toma was the dedicated and much beloved Gifted & Talented teacher at Kipapa Elementary School for years. She taught us to stretch our minds academically, but also guided us through creating original character-building musicals that we performed every year at various schools. Fortunately, I have the memories. Unfortunately, my mom still has the pictures (the cougar costume is amazing)." – Christi Young, Marketing Manager

"My favorite teacher was Kapiolani Community College music instructor Lina Doo, who was secretly an electrician (she enjoyed turning on lightbulbs in her students' minds). Even though I did not have the pipes to become a famous singer, she encouraged me to pursue my dreams. May she rest in peace." – Diane Lee, Web Producer
