Keiki Take on the Waves in T&C Surf Grom Contest

Watch kids as young as three years old ride the tides at Queen’s Beach in their first surf contest.

This month marks the 25th annual T&C Surf Grom Contest—the largest keiki surf contest on the South Shore of O‘ahu. In the noncompetitive event, kids can participate in shortboard, longboard and bodyboard divisions, and there’s even a chance for ‘ohana to surf in tandem with their keiki. Many big-name local surfers—Honolua Blomfield, Zeke Lau, Seth Moniz, Carissa Moore—participated in the contest when they were young.

“So much has changed over the 25 years since we started the T&C Grom Contest—more kids, more girl surfers, younger kids,” says Craig Sugihara, founder of T&C Surf Designs. “What hasn’t changed is the stoke you see in the eyes of the kids!”
