‘Iolani Palace shines a little brighter these days, thanks to 1,030 new LED bulbs that replicate the original palace lighting in intensity, color and appearance. The LED Retrofit Project saves the palace almost $1,200 a month in electricity costs and helps protect artifacts, which can be damaged by UV radiation emitted by CFLs, according to Kippen de Alba Chu, executive director of The Friends of ‘Iolani Palace. The palace will offer free tours on Kama‘āina Sunday, Nov. 12, and will be decorated for King Kalākaua’s birthday, Nov. 16.
