Nonstop Kaka‘ako: What to do

Fusing all the things we love — food, shopping, music, art, cocktails and fun — Nonstop Kaka‘ako is an urban, interactive, pop-up retail, food and entertainment event, happening this Saturday, Oct. 22, from 4 p.m. to midnight on Auahi Street, between Coral and Keawe streets. There’s no admission fee, and there’s free parking at 555 South Street (ETS lot), next lot on Pohukaina, across Ala Moana Boulevard on Ilalo Street.
Along with lots of food vendors and retail pop-ups, there’s a ton of special stuff to see and do at Nonstop Kakaako. Here are more details on the activities:

One of three bars at the fest, you’ll find beer and wine here. For those of you 21 and over, purchase a wristband for $7 to drink.
The Man Cave
A Men’s Lounge with a cigar bar provided by Tobaccos of Hawaii (psst, we hear DJ Lanai will be offering a limited special offer of buy-one-get-one-free cigars), this is also where the University of Hawaii’s Homecoming football game will be shown. Here, you’ll find a second bar with stiffer “gentlemen’s drinks” like whiskey and scotch. Also, Scores Bar & Grill will be open and doing a special giveaway for tickets to Las Vegas.
Ladies’ Lounge
The ladies’ lounge is where ladies can get your hair, makeup and shellac nails done, with a beauty bar by Color Cuts, a scent bar by CHAI Studio and a photo booth by The BOOTH Hawaii.
Sweets & Martini Bar
This bar by the ladies’ lounge will offer champagne and martinis, plus special desserts by Fairycakes and others.
Live UH Football
The University of Hawaii’s Warriors begin the second half of the 2011 season by hosting New Mexico State at the annual Homecoming Game at Aloha Stadium. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.; catch all the action on screens at the event.
Nonstop’s Best Of Winners announcement
You voted for your favorite restaurants, food and nightlife spots, and we’ll be announcing the winners of our Best Of contest at 8:30 p.m. at the main stage. Gather ‘round!
Virtual stand-up paddling
C4 Waterman brings us a novel experience with its virtual stand-up paddle board. If you’ve ever wanted to try stand-up paddling, but aren’t sure whether it’s for you, here’s a fun way to find out.
Live art
Pow Wow Hawaii,, headed up by Jasper Wong, will present live art by the main stage. Also, the four-artist collaborative project known as Na Alaka’i will be doing a live aerosol mural of “the battle of Nu’uanu.” Say hi to 808 Speakerbox, run by Riana Stellburg of Rudified Media and Kristin Oshiro of Sweet Lychee Productions, while you’re in the Art Zone too.
Kamehameha Schools Parklet
Kamehameha Schools will be building a temporary parklet, designed by Lauren Makk, formerly of TLC’s “Trading Spaces,” in two parallel parking spaces along Auahi Street, as a demonstration of the pedestrian and street plans for their future Kaka‘ako development project. The parklet at Nonstop Kaka‘ako will include seating, decking and planters from FarmRoof filled with veggies like kale, arugula and mustard greens.
