Stewing for a good cause
About a month ago, Jill Shiroma of SWAM (Shiroma’s Wine And More) Wine in Waimalu Plaza asked me if I would like to be a judge in a country stew contest. The contest was part of “Party at the Plaza,” an event to raise funds and awareness for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), an organization that provides support and resources to families with autistic children.
It turns out that there is more happening in the community than we realize. Sunglass maker Oakley has designed exclusive TACA Signature Series Fuel Cell sunglasses to support the cause. For every one sold, Oakley will donate $20 to TACA. These are available at Paradise Optical and other Oakley dealers in town.
I learned a bit about stew yesterday, but more importantly, I learned about autism and what people in Hawaii are doing to help families affected by it.
