A year after their first production, the team that brought the Neon Dreams blacklight burlesque performance to the stage at The ARTS at Marks Garage is back with an all new-and-improved version of the risque show that explores the ABC’s of sex. WARNING: This show and the some of the following photos may be for mature audiences only.

“Our goal is to feature sex without shame, judgement, labels or fears,” wrote director Lola Love. “The type of sex that questions relationships, sexual identity and sexual normality. Neon Dreams is the world I want to live in, a world where pleasure of all participants is the focus and experimentation is an accepted form of self-discovery.”

The redux of Neon Dreams marks this team of talented women — including Lola Love, La Femme Rikita and IONA Dance Company’s Rose Wolfe — coming into their own and maturing as choreographers, costume designers and performers. The cast features La Femme Rikita, Lola Love, The Aphrodisiacs and Maui’s The UltraViolets.

If you’ve seen the first run of Neon Dreams, go again. You won’t be disappointed. The new version is smoother and more polished, with better costumes and theatrics, and tighter choreography and execution.

The storyline is different too, more positive and less complicated. In some parts, it feels like something’s missing, but the tantalizing acts, misdirection and constant quirky surprises quickly make you forget about something so trivial as a storyline.

If you’ve never seen this show, go into it with an open mind and an open heart. Anything can, and quite possibly will happen. You’ll laugh, you’ll be dazzled, and you might just learn something about sex. Take your significant other, if you have one. Ladies, take your girl friends for a girls’ night out. Just be sure that if you take a friend, it’s someone you’re comfortable talking about sex with.
