Something to see: Sweet Soiree

Sweet Soiree

Sweet Soiree, an original burlesque play written, produced and directed by Lola Love, the mastermind behind Neon Dreams, opened Thursday evening at the Arts at Marks Garage. The show offered a mix of burlesque and childlike innocence, karaoke, musical dance numbers, and decorations straight from a fairytale Candyland.

SThe outfits are eye-popping and fantastical, and they really take the cake (pun intended). Unlike “Neon Dreams,” there’s no overt sex, beyond a few burlesque teaser numbers. Overall, it’s the silly story of a party, drama among friends and how it is resolved. It’s a fun, lighthearted number for the holiday season that will keep audiences laughing and singing along to favorites like, “Don’t Stop Believing,” “Foxxy Lady” and many other classics.

Sweet Soiree owes its theatrics to Marcus Lee (assistant director), James Mares (musical director), Cheyne Gallarde (set design), Mishy Le Fleur (makeup), La Femme Rikita (dance and set Ccoreography) and Rose Wolfe of IONA Dance (costuming).

Sweet Soiree plays through Saturday, Dec. 21, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. For tickets and more information, click here.
