Last month we wrote about how eccentric billionaire Genshiro Kawamoto’s reign of bad-neighborliness ended when he sold more than two dozen of his Hawaii properties to an Alexander & Baldwin subsidiary.
Most were along Kahala Avenue, and at one time they were counted among the Honolulu’s ritiziest homes and mansions. But Kawamoto let them fall into disrepair, if he didn’t raze them entirely. But A&B wasted no time in cleaning up the mess to ready the properties for market. Now it’s put a brand on them: the Estates of Kahala.
Eight of the lots and three of the homes are along the ocean. The rest are on the mauka side of the avenue. Check the listings at Sotheby’s International Realty, Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties and Choi International.
A&B Properties is the real estate subsidiary of Alexander and Baldwin Inc., Hawaii’s fourth largest landowner. In September, A&B bought 31 of Kawamoto’s properties—three in Kaneohe, one on Maui and 27 along Kahala Avenue. In December, A&B bought Kawamoto’s remaining three Kahala Avenue properties.
