You may not have noticed this before, but Honolulu is full of art deco. A new exhibit opening at the Honolulu Museum of Art in July makes the case that Hawaii had a flourishing school of artists, creating all kinds of beautiful, innovative art deco work in the years between the two world wars. The exhibit mainly focuses on paintings, prints and sculpture, but one prominent way that the distinctive aesthetic popped up in Honolulu was through the city's architecture.
