Preview: Hawaii’s first Taiwan Cycling Festival

Three years ago, I went to Taiwan and fell in love with a lot of the food there, especially the guabao. I have a feeling that once you try some good Taiwanese food, you’ll get the feels for it, too.

This Sunday is your big chance: The first Taiwan Cycling Festival is happening on September 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kapiolani Park, featuring about 20 food, cultural and information booths.

Why cycling? Well, Taiwanese people like to ride bikes, so title sponsor China Airlines is bringing people who want to participate in the Honolulu Bicycling League’s annual Century Bike Ride. Whether you’re a biker or not, though, you can still participate in the food and cultural part of the celebration.

Our Will Chen has Taiwan roots, so he showed us some of his favorite foods that will be featured at the festival.

If you don’t know who serves Taiwanese food in town, you’ll see them at the Festival: Aunty’s Ramen, JJ Bakery, Red Pavilion, Egghead Cafe, Tropical Goodies, Tea Time Taiwan, Lin’s Market, Water Drop, Dew Drop Inn, and KC Kitchen.
