Personality Quiz: Which $12 Happy Hour Pizza at Kaka‘ako’s Moku Kitchen Is You?
It’s a scientifically unproven fact: Your pizza order reveals more about your personality than you might think.
Update: As of spring 2023, happy hour pizzas are $12.
When happy hour includes a $12 pizza, count me in! I’m practically running there. Moku Kitchen at Salt in Kaka‘ako has a happy hour that runs from 2 to 5:30 p.m. when they discount all five pizzas to $12. Trust me, you can’t find many $12 pizzas that incorporate locally grown ingredients.
So which of the five choices would suit your personality? Your pizza order reveals more about you than you might think! At some point I recommend trying all five to see which pie your taste buds like best, but to help you narrow it down in the meantime, here’s your guide to which happy hour pizza is you.

Baked potato pizza
What’s on it: fingerling potatoes, applewood-smoked bacon, broccoli, mozzarella, provolone, cheddar, white sauce, sour cream, chives
Regular price: $18
Personality traits: You crave creature comforts and the safety of familiar flavors. To you, a baked potato is like a warm, delicious hug—like coming home to Grandma’s table.
Don’t even get me started with the baked potato pizza. You may be thinking, why baked potatoes on a pizza? I say why not! If you like potatoes, bacon and cheese (who doesn’t?) this pizza screams your name. I love the sprinkle of crispy smoked bacon pieces and the light sour cream drizzle. It may sound strange, but this is your ultimate comfort food pizza.

Hamakua wild mushroom pizza
What’s on it: Small Kine Farms mushrooms, truffle oil, mozzarella, provolone, white sauce, garlic, fresh thyme
Regular price: $19
Personality traits: This one’s an either-or pizza, or for those with split personalities: You love luxe ingredients like truffle oil and local mushrooms, and/or you’re a picky eater who loves knowing the main ingredients are basically mushrooms and cheese.
Mushrooms scream luxe, especially when they’re Hamakua mushrooms. And who can go wrong with truffle oil? Or if you’re a particular eater who’s selective about your pizza toppings, this pie with pretty much two main ingredients is a great option. And it’s absolutely delectable. Both of your personalities love that this pie is normally $19, so you’re getting a great deal.

Kalua pork and pineapple pizza
What’s on it: kalua pork, macadamia nut pesto, roasted pineapple, jalapeño, green onion
Regular price: $18
Personality traits: You’re curious and daring—enough to order a pizza without looking at the fine print that tells you it’s loaded with peppers. You also don’t care what people will say when they find out you ordered a pizza with pineapple on it.
I know that jalapeños can be intimidating for some people, because they are to me, but for the bold and daring among you, that first spicy, salty, fruity bite will make you wonder how this all comes together so well. If you’re curious about outside-the-box combinations like kalua pork, mac nut pesto, pineapple and jalapeños, this pizza might be for you.

Margherita pizza
What’s on it: Hau‘ula farm tomatoes, mozzarella, organic local basil
Regular price: $16
Personality traits: Maybe you’re shy. Maybe you secretly want to stand out, but you always let others have the spotlight. You’re OK. We get you. And we love you anyway.
If you’re the person who looks at the menu and gets nervous about baked potatoes or kalua pig with pineapple, you’re going to love the margherita. Nothing against a simple pizza with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil. You probably want to be adventurous, but end up choosing the safe option because you know you’ll like it no matter what. Maybe one day you’ll step outside your comfort zone, like when you see your friend’s baked potato pizza actually comes with smoked bacon and three types of cheese, but not today.

Roasted veggie pizza
What’s on it: roasted veggies, Big Island chèvre, basil, macadamia nut pesto
Regular price: $17
Personality traits: Basically, anybody can be a veggie pizza personality.
You’re coming off an indulgent weekend where not sharing that tomahawk steak turned out to be a bad idea. Or you have made a conscientious decision not to eat meat. Nothing wrong with a veggie option, this pie with mac nut pesto is absolutely tasty. And do we need to remind you that goat cheese is vegetarian-friendly?
So which pizza speaks to your personality? No matter what you ended up with, it’s hard to pass up a $12 pie. Pro tip: You can get happy hour food to go.
P.S. In case you were wondering, it turns out I’m a Hamakua wild mushroom pizza girl. I love the idea of getting local mushrooms and truffle oil for almost half-off!
