Party pics: ‘White Dreams’ art reception

Local artist Kamea Hadar (you might know him from his involvement with Pow Wow) held the crowded reception for his new art show, “White Dreams,” at Fresh Cafe on Friday evening. The show itself was impressive, with 2D images on canvas, a remarkable floor-to-ceiling piece that covered several hanging panels in the center of the room, and a Sistine Chapel-like piece on the ceiling,

We asked Kamea what the concept for “White Dreams” was all about, and here’s what he said:

“I worked on this show for a couple months, but actually some of it didn’t come together until tonight. Over the years, I’ve refined my skill, making my work very realistic, but I started becoming a copy machine… so I wanted to strip down my work and try to use the negative space. Because I use canvas, the negative space is usually white…so I’ve been doing a lot of white paintings, trying to do more with less. This show has qualities that remind you of a dream; you don’t remember everything, but you do remember the main emotion, or essence. I try to make striking images that are surreal, but I also wanted to give the viewer breathing room to draw their own conclusions.”
