Party pics: Uber Launch Party
More than 100 movers and shakers came to Wai‘olu Lounge at the Trump Hotel Thursday for the Honolulu launch party of Uber, a San Francisco-based ridesharing company that just began offering service on Oahu. Using a mobile app and GPS, Uber customers can request a ride and have an Uber driver come to their location for pick-up.
Installing the mobile app requires credit card information; customers are charged after they’re dropped off. A receipt is sent via email, listing the name of the driver, distance traveled and cost. The experience is being touted as being different from standard taxis in that the service is more reliable and comfortable, resulting in premium pricing. Launched in 2010, the fast-growing service is now available in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Munich, Milan, Rome, Taipei and Singapore.
As part of the launch event, complimentary Uber rides were provided to and from Trump.
